This month’s Steel E-Motive reveals its first-of-its-kind battery packaging. This very sleek and efficient design uses the Advanced High-Strength Steel flat floor of the vehicle as the battery packaging’s top cover to provide the all-important sealing.
The EV battery packaging is unique. Instead of battery modules mounted to the bottom cover plate, as in conventional designs, they are inverted and suspended in a carrier frame. This frame is attached to the body-in-white structural cross members; a cover plate is then attached to the body in white that encloses and protects the battery pack. This gives significant mass and cost savings.
