WorldAutoSteel Projects
WorldAutoSteel is a unique organisation--a collection of the world's largest steel producers working together, in a pre-competitive environment, to research and develop the use and application of the newest steels on the market today, Advanced High-Strength Steels. A world of resources is pooled to demonstrate the latest technologies, the best practices, the newest information to help make vehicles lighter, greener and safer.
In this section, you'll find information on these projects. They range from our current project, FutureSteelVehicle, to a world-known University of California at Santa Barbara study comparing vehicle life cycle green house gas emissions using a variety of materials, powertrains and fuels to Cost Modeling projects.
On those that we have finished, we give the details away liberally. You'll find full Engineering Reports detailing the work of the UL Family of Research: ULSAB, ULSAC, ULSAS and ULSAB-AVC. These projects changed the course of vehicle body structures towards new and exciting application of Advanced High-Strength Steels. The impact of these projects can be seen in nearly every car on the road today--achieving higher crash and structural performance with less vehicle weight while maintaining affordable manufacturing costs.
And then of course there's AHSS Application Guidelines, a regularly updated document that gathers all the best practices for working with these new steels from around the world.
We hope you'll browse this section often and glean from the world of information you'll find here.
